Introduction

 Hello all!

My name is Magan Higgins Gramling and I have been an Occupational Therapist since 2012, when I graduated with a Master's from UAB in Birmingham, AL. I have stayed in Birmingham as my husband's job is also here and have worked in every setting an OT can from outpatient, to SNF, to home health, and schools. During my first year as an OT, I obtained a certification in lymphedema, and since then have obtained other certifications in trauma, reflexology and functional nutrition.

I worked for eight years in these various positions before becoming disillusioned with the insurance driven healthcare world and in 2020, one month before the pandemic hit, I opened my own business: Integrative OT. I worked at a yoga studio with a holistic PT who focused on women's health and wellness. Since then I have found my niche in mobile lymphatic work and nature based services to children with and without special needs. I contract with a local preschool as well and have a podcast to help educate healthcare providers, lay people and other OTs on the massive scope of OT and how occupation is medicine.

I have been married for 13 years and have two children (8yo and 5 yo), two dogs, a cat, and chickens. My favorite state would either be Colorado or Utah. I absolutely love the great outdoors, swimming, biking, hiking, earthing and traveling with my family. One positive characteristic that makes me feel good about myself is my resilience. I cannot wait for this course and am hoping to get more knowledge about women's health not only for my own life, but to greatly help support the women I am lucky enough to serve.

Your portfolio is impressive, and your various certifications set you apart from most OTs. I am big on advocating for the OT profession, and I am glad you have a podcast that shines light on the OT profession.

    Hello Magan,
So lovely to make your acquaintance! I must confess that I was overjoyed to learn that both my teammates are occupational therapists from whom I am confident I will gain valuable information and insight! It is fantastic that you have a podcast focusing on healthcare provider education. This is also the topic I have chosen for my capstone project, and I cannot wait to pick your brain about what you already know about women's health and beyond! I am confident that we will succeed in this course and build a strong partnership thanks to your resilience and my keen awareness of detail! I am genuinely looking forward to our collaboration this term!
